Y5 Weighing in Air and Water

Pupils investigate the upthrust force produced by water by using a force metre to measure the gravitational force produce by a number of items when weighed both in and out of water. The record and graph their results before drawing conclusions.

Learning Objectives:

  • PoS - identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
  • WS - pupils should take measurements, using a range of scientific equipment, with increasing accuracy and precision
