Y5 Using a Forcemeter

Pupils learn how to use a forcemeter and investigate the forces being produced by a range of objects being pulled back down to earth by gravity. They identify that the heavier the object the greater the reading on the forcemeter.

Learning Objectives:

  • PoS - explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object
  • NaG - pupils might find out how scientists such as Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton helped to develop the theory of gravitation
  • WS - pupils should take measurements, using a range of scientific equipment, with increasing accuracy and precision
