Y5 Shoes and Friction

Pupils solve a problem by designing and carrying out an investigation to find out which pair of shoes would produce the most grip, and therefore friction, for sailors when working on the decks of busy ships.

Learning Objectives:

  • PoS - identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces
  • NaG - pupils should experience forces that make things begin to move, get faster or slow down
  • WS - pupils should plan different types of scientific enquiries to answer questions, including recognising and controlling variables where necessary
