Y5 Observing the Movement of the Sun

Pupils learn that the Sun appears to move across the sky because the Earth rotates. Pupils make a model of the Earth that rotates and helps them to explain sunrise and sunset and day and night.

Learning Objectives:

  • PoS - use the idea of the Earth’s rotation to explain day and night
  • NaG - pupils should be introduced to a model of the Sun and Earth that enables them to explain day and night
  • WS - pupils could use simple models to describe scientific ideas
