Y5 Gravity

Pupils learn that gravity is the force that pulls down and holds things to the Earth’s surface, preventing them from floating off into the atmosphere. They learn how to use a forcemeter to measure the force exerted on a range of objects by gravity and that this force is measured in newtons.

Learning Objectives:

  • PoS - explain that unsupported objects fall towards the Earth because of the force of gravity acting between the Earth and the falling object
  • NaG - pupils might find out how scientists such as Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton helped to develop the theory of gravitation
  • WS - pupils should take measurements, using a range of scientific equipment, with increasing accuracy and precision
