Plant Bulbs now – have blooms in the Spring!

November 19th 2020

Now is the time to plant bulbs with your class!

Using our mini-package on bulbs,  the children have a go at planting and nurturing their bulb, making observations of the plant’s growth, then plotting a graph of the growth and interpreting the data. Specifically designed for Year 5 and Year 6, your class will work scientifically by taking measurements with increasing accuracy and precision, taking repeat readings when appropriate and recording data and results of increasing complexity using scientific diagrams and labels, bar and line graphs.

In our mini package on bulbs, you are provided with:

  • ideas on how to use the resources
  • instructions for planting either a hyacinth bulb or a crocus bulb
  • a booklet where the children make observations of their bulb’s growth
  • a data recording sheet for noting the height of growth of their bulb
  • graph paper for plotting a graph after the bulb has matured, which they then interpret

This package gives the children the chance of some cross-curricular work:

  • English – the children write instructions for growing a bulb for another year group
  • Maths – they plot graphs and interpret data
  • Computing – they can use the data collected to input into a spread sheet or graphing programme to generate a graph

Above all your class will have fun planting a bulb and watching it grow into a beautiful bloom!

Available in both Year 5 and Year 6 resource packages HERE
